Objective: Create struts to support the overhead monitors which will make them stand out in the Control Room.

Support struts created for the monitors to hang from in the Control Room.

To begin, let’s use a floor tile that a little more narrower than the regular floor tiles to create the bars of this particular strut. Drag Scifi Floors 12 object into the Scene above the middle monitor. We want to use the Scale tool along the Z-axis to make this floor tile narrow as a metal bar which will be about 0.07 meters. Also, scale it along the X-axis to be equally long enough on both sides of the monitor’s support tile mount. Then, rotate the Scifi Floors 12 object along the X-axis to have its stripes design facing forward.

Using Scifi Floors 12 object to create a metal bar for the strut.

Next, duplicate the Scifi Floors 12 object and move the duplicate above the original bar by about 0.25 meters. Duplicate this object, rotate it along its Z-axis to make it stand upright, and position it on one side of the bars. Scale it up along the Y-axis to make this object a little longer than its original bar. Duplicate this object and position it on the other side of the bars. Once more duplicate this object and position it on top in between the 2 side bars objects. Make sure to rotate the objects to have the painted stripes facing forward.

We want to also add bars in the middle area of the strut. Duplicate the top bar object, drag it down into the middle area, rotate it to be one-half of the ‘X’ formation, and scale it to be long enough to go from one corner to the other corner. Duplicate this object once more, rotate it to complete the ‘X’ formation, and position it into the other empty corners. Make sure to have the painted stripes facing forward on both bars.

Support strut finished and positioned above the center monitor.

Now we can organize these objects that make up the strut and turn it into a prefab. Select the 1st bar created for this strut, and create an Empty game object under it name Support 01. Unparent the Support 01 object from the Scifi Floors 12 object in the Hierarchy. Select all the objects that make up the strut, and place them inside the Support 01 game object. Drag the Support 01 game object into the Walls folder under Prefabs to make the Support 01 object officially a prefab to be reused later on.

Strut created placed in the Support 01 game object and turned into a prefab.

Let’s place a strut over the other 2 monitors by duplicating the Support 01 game object. Make sure to rotate the new struts at an angle over the other 2 monitors supports tile mounts.

Added 2 more struts above the other monitors support tile mounts.

Duplicate the Support 01 objects, and place them in between the struts above each monitor at an angle to connect in an uniform manner. Then, select all of the struts and duplicate them, placing them above the original struts. Duplicate them one more time and place them above the second row of struts.

Duplicated struts added to support the monitors.
